Construction of Killerspin Jet 800

Killerspin Jet 800 Construction

The blade of this racket has 7 layers (5W + 2C) which gives optimum performance for power play while the thick Nitrx-4Z rubbers provide high spin and decent control. The Jet 800 is available only on the Shakehand grip style that suits most players.

Blade

This racket has a composite blade combined with wood and carbon. It is a 7 layers composite blade, with 5 layers of premium wood, and 2 outer layers of carbon. This is an ideal combination of power that any aggressive player looks for which is evident with the speed rating of 9/10.

The stiffness of carbon layers provides a wide sweet spot so that you can hit powerful shots over a larger area of the racket. The outer carbon layers act as an additive for hard hitting while the premium wood takes care of the feeling and control that makes it a very good offensive table tennis racket.

Rubber

The ITTF-approved Nitrx- 4z rubber is slightly tacky with a sponge thickness of 2.1 mm. This is a medium-hard rubber with a thin topsheet. When you hit a ball, the ball penetrates more into the sponge. The sponge absorbs more of the incoming energy which in turn deflects the ball with higher velocity. This rubber gives you the edge over your opponent by giving a high speed and spin but the downside is the lack of adequate control.

Handle

This Killerspin Jet 800 has a flared handle to hold the racket which is great for forehand-dominant players who prefer power hitting. The handle is made with durable burnt wood which you do not find in any premade paddle. Another advantageous feature is the wooden tape which prevents the peeling of rubbers and prolongs the effect of glue.

Weight

It’s a heavy paddle and weighs around 190 grams (6.7 oz). The dimensions of this racket are slightly larger (6” x 6.02”) which is responsible for the heavyweight. The advantage of a big paddle is more area for hitting and also it transmits more energy into your shots, but the significant disadvantage is that it is not easy to handle like a lightweight racket.

Performance of the Jet 800

Killerspin Jet 800 Performance

The Killerspin Jet 800 is one step ahead of an offensive racket. The combination of a carbon blade and medium-hard (Hardness: 40 degrees) rubbers gives you massive power for smashing and enough spin to work on your looping shots with a little effort.

For beginners and amateurs, it is not easy to control the ball with this offensive paddle. The high bounce that this Jet 800 offers, kicks the ball out of the table on many occasions.

Another area where it looks very good is the handle. It is made with burnt wood which has 30% less moisture content than a standard wooden handle. The FL handle looks premium and is very comfortable to grip (Though there is an issue that the handle is slightly shorter for larger hands).

Durability

When the racket is new, you can feel the tackiness of the rubbers which attract dust particles during play. So, to get the better performance of this Nitrx-4Z rubber, you need to clean them at regular intervals.

The area where this paddle shines is the blade. It is a very good quality blade that can be reused for a very long duration. You can easily replace the worn-out rubber either with the same Nitrx-4Z (Available in the market) or any quality rubber.

Price

The Jet 800 is priced around $100 which is high compared to other good premade paddles, like its competitor STIGA Pro Carbon (Priced around $75). If you can spare a little bit of time, it is better to go for a customized paddle with your preferences which costs almost the same.

Positives of Killerspin Jet 800

  • Extreme fast racket
  • Good spin

  • Wooden side tape gives better protection for the edges of rubbers
  • Easy replacement of damaged rubber
  • You may not need to replace your blade for the long term.
  • Comfortable flared Handle

  • It comes with a gift-worthy storage box which you can use for the protection of your paddle
  • A brand like Killerspin, a world-class company
  • It comes with a warranty of 30 days.
  • Excellent customer service

Negatives of Killerspin Jet 800

  • Not beginner-friendly
  • Expensive
  • You need practice adjusting to the heavy weight of the racket.

Other Alternatives

If you think the price of it is high enough for a premade racket, some alternatives can give you good results.

If you want to stick to the same brand, Killerspin Jet 600 (Priced at $59) is a better option for beginners and intermediate players with a 35% price saving which is huge. This lightweight all-wood paddle (Rating: Speed- 8, Spin- 9, Control- 8.5) will give you a better feeling and control with a little sacrifice of speed.

Conclusion

There is no doubt that Killerspin Jet 800 is one of the best rackets for aggressive intermediate and advanced players. The power that it can generate may even surprise you. If you are an attacker and want to dominate your opponent with offensive play, this racket suits you very well. The downside is that it takes a little time to adjust the heavy weight of the Jet 800, which may be a blessing for you for returning the ball with powerful strokes away from the table.

    Hi
What do you think about the rubber Butterfly Super Anti?
I’m considering to built a blade witj this one in my reverse and a Tenergy 05 (or similar) in my forehand.
Thanks and greetings from Corrientes- Argentina

Butterfly Super Anti is a soft and slow anti-spin rubber that helps to change the pace of a rally with a good amount of knuckle-ball effect. Good for blocking and chopping. Combine By using Tenergy 05 (an excellent topspin rubber) on your forehand, you can take the advantage of twiddling racket to confuse your opponents with heavy topspin and dead ball effect.
      Thanks
