Construction of JOOLA Omega Control

Constructional features of the JOOLA Omega Control paddle

The Omega Control has a 5-ply wood blade. The outer plies are basswood and the inner layers are tungwood. Basswood has soft and even textures that provide great feedback. Tungwood is an economical alternative to the popular Balsa wood. The lighter and stronger Tungwood gives power while hitting the ball.

It is not an offensive blade like a composite carbon or 7-ply wooden blade. This 5-ply wooden blade gives you more authority on control rather than speed.

It has a flared handle that enlarges towards the end to prevent the paddle from slipping. FL handle is the most popular and convenient way to hold a racket, especially for inexperienced players.

The blade is pasted with 1.8 mm JOOLA Vizon rubbers. As a thumb rule, rubber thickness is proportional to speed and inversely proportional to control. A 2.1 mm rubber is good for speed but not so good for control. JOOLA has kept the thickness to 1.8 mm for more control and average speed.

The Vizon rubber is soft and sticky. Soft rubbers have a higher dwell time and the ball holds for a longer time. This gives you a higher level of control which is good for building basic skills. The tacky surface is conducive for spin creation, especially on soft strokes like serves and pushes.

At the end of the rubber, the ITTF logo indicates that it is approved for participation in any tournament.

The tackiness of the topsheet can generate a good amount of spin. The soft tacky rubber helps deliver spinny serves for a third-ball attack.
